Learn Fluent Spanish - Numbers

What would life be without numbers? Love them or hate them, we need numbers to function in our daily lives. The same is true when you want to learn fluent Spanish. One way to learn fluent Spanish is to practice using Spanish numbers as you go about your daily tasks such as grocery shopping for instance.

Spanish numbers from 1 - 20 are very straight forward and easy to pronounce and put to memory. However, there are a few patterns and exceptions with the numbers following veinte (twenty):

Exception of the twenties:
The numbers 21 to 29 all start with "veinti" and end with the same number used for 1 - 9. Example 21 = veintiuno, 22 = veintidos,...25 = veinticinco..etc.

Pattern of TEN:
The numbers 30 treinta, 40 cuarenta,50 cincuenta,60 sesenta, 70 setenta, 80 ochenta, and 90 noventa have a similar ending.

Pattern of the preposition "y":
The numbers 31 - 39;41 - 49;51 - 59;61 - 69;71 - 79;81 - 89;91 - 99 all have the prepostion "y" followed by the number used for 1 - 9. For example, 31 (treinte y uno); 44 (cuarenta y cuatro); 55 (cincuenta y cinco); 66 (sesenta y seis);78 (setenta y siete); 82 (ochenta y dos) and 99 (noventa y nueve).

As long as you master 1 - 30, the rest will come naturally as you learn fluent Spanish.
