Learn Fluent Spanish - Know Your Manners

Spanish, unlike English, has a distinction for addressing individuals and this distinction is based on the status of the individual with respect to your family, society, workplace, profession, and so on. TĂș is an informal form of address used with daily interaction with close friends, children, your peers, and acquaintances. Usted is a formal form of address and is used in formal situations or occurrences where the person is older than you, at a higher socio-economic status such as a judge, doctor, or professor, or if you are meeting someone for the first time. As a rule of thumb, you should use Usted especially when you are just starting to learn fluent Spanish.
